an infused oil is one that has had plants soak in it for an extended time, drawing into the oil all the healing properties of the botanicals.
at Meraki Botanicals, we use rose petals, chamomile flowers, calendula flowers, lavender buds, and comfrey leaves to infuse into grapeseed, sunflower, and olive oils. the infusion takes about 4-6 weeks before the plants are strained from the oil and the oil is used in our products.
the oils we use contain essential fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and other constituents that soothe, soften, and protect your skin and hair.
grapeseed oil – extracted from seeds of wine grapes
grapeseed oil contains an essential fatty acid called linolenic acid, which helps to soothe inflammation and balance sebum (your body’s natural oil). this can reduce acne and protect & strengthen your skin barrier. linolenic acid may also stimulate hair growth. this is a noncomedogenic oil – meaning it won’t clog your pores – that is lightweight and absorbs quickly to leave you glowing, not greasy.
sunflower oil – extracted from seeds of sunflower plants
sunflower oil is rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E. these antioxidants reduce sun damage, scars, and other discoloration, while retaining moisture to keep skin and hair hydrated. this oil contains linolenic acid as well to soothe inflammation, reduce acne, and balance sebum.
olive oil – extracted from olives
olive oil is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, but it also contains polyphenols, which help to soften fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. olive oil deeply nourishes and repairs skin and damaged hair with it’s rich consistency and the antioxidants can help to reduce scarring and sun damage.
I like to apply products with these oils after a day in the sun or before drying off after a shower to soothe and lock in moisture. they can be used all over your body, skin, and hair for a soft, natural glow.
